Give Yourself Permission

It’s time to give yourself permission to take a break to refill the soul with quiet peace. I have been thinking about this a lot lately: Why don’t we give ourselves permission to “just be”, to explore our soul as a place of peace?

Be still, and know that I am GodPsalm 46:10 (NIV)

Why do we spend so much time being busy? Being busy has become the mantra of conversation for many. Our days rarely start with a quiet moment of reflection on God’s word. They start with an overfilled to-do list of activities. As we ride through the busyness of our days, we begin to lose our perspective of who we are and the direction in which God is calling us. Our busyness creates distractions that pull us away from the hope-filled dreams promised to us by our Heavenly Father.

“Let the dawning day bring me revelation of your tender, unfailing love. Give me light for my path and teach me, for I trust in you.” Psalm 143:8 (TPT)

This is a perfect time of year to take a step-back and give ourselves permission to stop, slow down, take a deep breathe and discover the simplicity of beauty and life that surrounds us. What if we really opened our eyes to our hearts to rediscover who we are? What if turned everything off and sat quietly with God to feel His love and comforting peace deep within?

Do not look at the clouds of cares of the world. Look to God for His love and see the endless fields of life colored with many promises and joy for you through all seasons.

Lately, I find myself walking through a season of change. Change is something good if we give ourselves permission to slow down to see where God is guiding us. Sometimes I think we stay in the cycle of busyness to avoid changes that may be uncomfortable such as a season of uncertainties with health and finance or challenges with a family member or friend. During some of my recent studies, I was reminded that even when we face these seasons of change we must take time to sit back, slow down and lean into a space of quietness and prayer to commune with our Heavenly Father to know that He is always with us to love and comfort us with His Courage.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

I really feel this is the season to give ourselves permission to find rest from the ways of the world to welcome in the peace and love of God to restore and rejuvenate one’s soul. Make this your day to give yourself permission to slow down, rest and take a deep breath. Sit with our Heavenly Father quietly as you meditate on His word. Listen and see how our Heavenly Father’s loving kindness guides you through any decision, change or challenge you may be facing, to a clear path of courage to pursue a calling and destiny beyond your imagination.

For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Isaiah 41:13 (NIV)

As I finish this writing, I find myself quietly singing a song that we would sing in church in my younger years. The song was written upon the beautiful words of Psalm 23 which says “the Lord is my true shepherd nor one no fear I know He leads me to safe pastures and I will follow…”

Thank you, Father God, for the patience and love you continue to bestow upon us that give us such peaceful comfort throughout our day.

Within your heart you can make plans for your future, but the Lord chooses the steps you take to get there. Proverbs 16:9 (TPT)
