Signs & Wonders

Did you ever have a moment when you wondered to yourself, “Is this a sign from God? Is he speaking to me with a special word or message to guide me through my day?” What are His “signs and wonders” anyway? Well, they don’t have to be a dramatic storm with thunder and lightning to get your attention. They may be just a soft nudge on your heart during your daily activities that captures your attention and lets you know that He is with you. I believe God’s “signs and wonders” can be discovered in the simplicity of our days if we are willing to trust in Him for all things and embrace His love.

The other day, I was on the errand treadmill, trying to get as much done as possible in a short amount of time.  On my last stop at the grocery store, I decided that I needed to slow down and breathe.  After gathering the last items on my list I proceeded to the checkout line. The register team member welcomed me with a kind smile followed by,  “Hello, my name is Matt.” He shared that this was his first week of work and added, “Please forgive me if I am a little slow with your checkout.” I immediately had a huge smile on my face, and said, “Please know it is okay.” A colleague joined us to help bag the groceries. All three of us engaged in casual conversation about their schooling and interests.  In a short amount of time, all the groceries were packed up and Matt hit the register key for the final total on the purchases. $100.00.  As they put the grocery bags in my cart, I turned to them and said, “Look at that total! $100.00, on the nose!” “WOW!” We laughed in unison. “We don't see that often,” said Matt’s colleague. As he walked away to help another customer, he said, “Hey, maybe you should play the lottery.”  I smiled back at him and said, “Or maybe it’s a message from our Heavenly Father.”

After I arrived home and put away the groceries, I made a cup of hot tea and went to my studio. I sat quietly for a few minutes. I could almost feel a soft nudge on my heart from God with His gentle voice guiding me to open my bible to Psalm 100.  As I began to read the Psalm,

I could feel a gentle peace wash over me. God was showing me how He is with us always.  At the same time, I began to imagine seeing Him with a big smile and feeling His comforting love cascade over me as the eyes of my heart opened to the many “signs and wonders” He puts before us in our everyday journey.

The Psalm speaks to how He invites us into the gateway of joy and thanksgiving. It is penned in The Message Translation:

“For God is sheer beauty, all-generous in love, loyal always and ever.”

Psalm 100:5

He speaks to us in so many different ways if we are willing to look up beyond what is in front of us and open our eyes with thankful hearts. Whether it is a grocery store receipt total, a sign on the freeway, a friend calling to say hello with an encouraging word, a painting of clouds in the sky, a sweet scent of aroma in the air or a song playing on the radio that speaks to you, receive these messages and let Him speak to you.

I encourage all of us to feast upon this Thanksgiving Psalm for this harvest season and discover the bounty full of the many different “signs and wonders” of marvelous blessings that our Heavenly Father has in store for us and generations to come.

A psalm. For giving grateful praise.

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.

Worship the Lord with gladness;

come before him with joyful songs.

Know that the Lord is God.

It is he who made us, and we are his;

we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving

and his courts with praise;

give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;

his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Psalm 100 (NIV)

How great are his signs,

how mighty his wonders!

His kingdom is an eternal kingdom;

his dominion endures from generation to generation.

Daniel 4:3

Everyone will say, “Come and see the incredible things God has done; it will take your breath away! He multiplies miracles for his people!”

Psalm 66:5 (TPT)
