The Quest for God’s Wisdom

As I write about my Quest for God’s wisdom to help me navigate through this upcoming Autumn season (and seasons to come), I invite you to join me on this journey. The more I study the Bible and read the word of God, the more I realize how He has put together an amazing roadmap to guide us through our life experiences.

Although my words are just a glimpse of the richness of God’s wisdom, my desire is to encourage you to walk with God in His love through His word to find peace through all we encounter in our daily lives.

How are the ways of the world distracting you from embracing God’s love through His word? Open your heart with curiosity and ask God to guide you with  His words of wisdom.

Little did I know that my travels this past year and my ladies prayer group would take me on a quest to understand God’s Wisdom more. Our studies have led us through the books of Psalms and Proverbs, which are often referred to as the wisdom books of the Bible, and, now, to the letters Paul wrote to the Corinthians.

I was excited to begin this study with the ladies as, this past fall, my husband and I traveled throughout Greece exploring the footsteps of Paul the Apostle. One of our visits was to the town of Corinth.

I have always loved the opportunity to spend time with people who were older and wiser than myself. Their advice, life experiences, and wisdom about an array of topics have always helped me navigate through my journey of life.  Today, I still cherish the many pearls of wisdom that were gifted to me from giving hearts  -- they are the foundational pillars of my life’s beliefs.

I know that, nowadays, we prefer quick access to information -- a click of a button or a swipe across the phone accesses a whole new world of knowledge – but it’s not the same as the human-to-human transfer of knowledge.  In these times of information overflow, one may begin to question what is real: Who is the source? How do they have this answer? Is this true?

In many a conversation with colleagues and friends from near and far, there is a need to step away from all the noise of the technological world and to reconnect with greater purpose. For true guidance through the seasons of life, our hearts are on a quest for thoughtful wisdom and truthful advice, far beyond what our modern technology tools can supply.

As I read through the words of the first two chapters in 1 Corinthians penned by Paul,  I found myself “sitting in the moment” of Chapter 2 verses 6-10.

As Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “However, there is a wisdom that we continually speak of when we are among the spiritually mature.  It’s wisdom that didn’t originate in this present age, nor did it come from the rulers of this age who are in the process of being dethroned.  Instead, we continually speak of this wonderful wisdom that comes from God, hidden before now in a mystery.  It is his secret plan, destined before the ages, to bring us into glory. 1 Corinthians 2:6-7 (TPT)

These words spoke to me. They were an “ah-ha moment.” I began to realize how, even though I have been so grateful to have people that have passed on their “pearls of wisdom” to me, the greatest place to find true wisdom is from the word of God.  His word is to be our guidepost through our daily life’s ups and downs, questions, and thoughts of uncertainty.  His word is true and never changes.

Recently we gathered around the dinner table with family friends. We come together several times throughout the year to break bread and share our journeys and life. We go around the table encouraging one another with our thoughts, wisdom and advice. Our conversations are filled with loving words for one another and, at the end of our meal, we join our hands together in prayer for we know that the greatest encourager of wisdom and advice for all our needs and situations is God.

This is why the Scriptures say:

Things never discovered or heard of before,
things beyond our ability to imagine —
these are the many things God has in store
for all his lovers.

But God now unveils these profound realities to us by the Spirit.  Yes, he has revealed to us his inmost heart and deepest mysteries through the Holy Spirit, who constantly explores all things.

1 Corinthians 2: 9-10

I could hear God whisper to my heart: The quest for wisdom is simple. Open your heart to my love for it will guide your path through all things.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:8-13 (NIV)

I began to dig deeper into the beautiful word of God as though I was preparing a new bed for the garden, combing through various layers of soil. I found myself turning through pages of the Bible and resources as though I was planting new seeds of God’s wisdom in my heart to grow and blossom like a new garden of life.

I could feel God’s wisdom wrapped around me like a blanket of love, giving me peace and everlasting hope.

Proverbs 2: 1-10 ( TPT)

1 My child, will you treasure my wisdom?
Then, and only then, will you acquire it.
And only if you accept my advice
and hide it within will you succeed.

2 So train your heart to listen when I speak
and open your spirit wide to expand your discernment—
then pass it on to your sons and daughters.

3 Yes, cry out for comprehension and intercede for insight.

4 For if you keep seeking it like a man would seek for sterling silver, searching in hidden places for cherished treasure,

5 then you will discover the fear of the Lord
and find the true knowledge of God.

6 Wisdom is a gift from a generous God,
and every word he speaks is full of revelation
and becomes a fountain of understanding within you.

7-8 For the Lord has a hidden storehouse of wisdom
made accessible to his godly ones.

He becomes your personal bodyguard as you follow his ways,
protecting and guarding you as you choose what is right.

9 Then you will discover all that is just, proper, and fair,
and be empowered to make the right decisions
as you walk into your destiny.

10 When wisdom wins your heart and revelation breaks in,
true pleasure enters your soul.
